The NewBridge Sports Academy has been designed and introduced by the NewBridge Graduate Institute and is now available to all Centurion Academy students. Whether you are an avid sportsperson, or just wish to maintain your health and fitness – we have you covered. Our sports programme facilitates the development of our students’ personal sporting, health and fitness objectives, with access to various facilities and opportunities to help you reach your goals.
Research has shown that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. Maintaining a level of physical fitness and a balanced diet while you study will prove to be hugely beneficial to both your physical and mental health. The NewBridge Sports Academy was conceptualised with this in mind, and with a view to offering a holistic approach to education, sports, fitness and wellness.
We also understand that sport – particularly team-based sport – can have a positive impact on various outcomes, including improving resilience; enhancing psychological and social development (interpersonal skills, personal resilience, confidence and self-esteem); and improving mental health.
For those students looking to stay fit and healthy, the NewBridge Sports Academy offers a general health and fitness programme. This includes body composition evaluations, nutritional guidance, group training sessions and more.
The NewBridge Sports Academy offers body composition evaluations, which include:
NewBridge Sports Academy consultants will also offer students nutritional guidance designed to assist them in reaching their own personal health goals through healthy, nutrient-rich dietary plans.
Each student will benefit from three training sessions per week, in any of the following disciplines:
As part of the Centurion Academy full-time offering, every student gains membership to a sports club which is aligned to your chosen campus. Students in the NewBridge Sports Academy will have the opportunity to play competitive and/or social sport at one of our partner clubs. This gives every Academy student an excellent opportunity to improve and hone their abilities, before taking their skills to the field to play and excel in their chosen sport.
The club that the student elects to join will be the environment that focuses on their team coached activities. All clubs have affiliation with provincial sporting unions that will allow students to showcase their talents and skills to look to attain sport representation at a provincial or national level.
Presented by a pool of experts, specialists, sports agents, sports psychologists, sportspeople and more, these discussions and workshops are designed to instil the attributes of a competitive and confident sportsperson in each student. Tackling everything from strategies to what it means to be a winner, these sessions will encompass all elements of sports and fitness that take place off the field, yet are equally vital to the success of each student. Lessons learned in these sessions will have a lasting impact from the lecture theatre and beyond.
You are an individual, and at Centurion Academy we celebrate this. Our approach to bursaries is different. Rather than simply awarding bursaries to those who are already at the top of their game, we have developed unique criteria to assess passion, perseverance and commitment to developing skills. This allows us to select not just those who are performing at their best, but those who are dedicated to doing whatever it takes to boost their skills and develop themselves in their chosen sport.
Sporting bursaries are awarded to students who have shown excellence, passion and a drive to excel at their chosen sport, and who are looking to play sport at one of the Centurion Academy associated sports clubs, or who are looking to join the NewBridge Sports Academy.
