More About Electronic Engineering

The Electonic Engineering course is developed to equip students with very good theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of the electronic principles required for a successful career as an engineering technician. During studies a student is exposed to the main study directions, digital electronics, analogue electronics and software engineering. These main subjects are backed up by the required level of engineering mathematics and engineering science. The theoretical work is also fully supported by laboratory work as well as project work where the student is required to give a presentation on completed work.

Entrance Requirements

By the very nature of the work that he / she will be required to undertake, it is necessary that an engineering technician must have a background that is based on logical thinking. To this end, a good grounding in mathematics is required and is written into the enrollment requirements. Enrollment requirements are as follows;

  • National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification with admission to diploma studies
  • Mathematics and Physical Science at Senior Certificate level with a pass percentage of 50%
  • English second language at Senior Certificate level with a pass percentage of 40%
  • Prospective students should be computer literate
  • Prospective students that do not comply to the above-mentioned requirements, but achieved 40% or more in Mathematics, Physical Science and English may be admitted to the extended program (4 years)

Work Integrated Learning (WIL)

The subjects are completed during the 1st six months of the third year of studies, where after experiential learning is industry based in the working environment and is evaluated by means of completed log books and student presentations.
